Vision & Mission

VISION:
ClassAct seeks to make vulnerable communities more habitable and humane by building physical spaces and new learning experiences inside them, proposing the formula of CONTAINER+CONTENT as a way to elevate the social agency of the structures it builds.

MISSION:
BUILD: To design and build culturally and environmentally responsive schools, engineered to resist natural disaster with a combination of local ingenuity, indigenous materials and technical innovation.
ACTIVATE: To use these new spaces as a locus for the learning commons to emerge, wherein students, teachers and the extended community can come together and participate in new learning experiences.
TRANSFORM: To provoke a paradigm shift in the architectural aid formula, elevating its agency and sustainability, by proposing a two-fold plan of building containers that provide a space for change to occur and then filling them with focused content, geared at integrating the new structures into the social landscape and activating change organically rather imposing it.

CONTAINER+CONTENT FORMULA:

CONTAINER: To design and build culturally and environmentally responsive schools, engineered to resist natural disaster with a combination of local ingenuity, indigenous materials and technical innovation. The Active School architectural concept is based on vernacular building traditions and space distributions, engineered with native building materials to withstand up to 240 kph typhoon winds.

+

CONTENT: To use these new spaces as a locus for the learning commons to emerge, wherein students, teachers and the extended community can come together and participate in new learning experiences. The schools incorporate an open space plan to foster dynamic learning experiences and offer a comfortable space for the community to congregate. A six-month program of educational and cultural content is planned for to guide the school community in the process of learning how to maximize the new space’s potential.
